Steaminess Rating

Rated R

This story is rated R because *spoiler alert* there’s a sex scene. I mean don’t worry, the story doesn’t resemble Fifty Shades of Grey whatsoever but Brooklyn definitely has some steamy romance events.

It’s kind of ironic that this innocent coming-of-age novel is rated steamy, well because it takes place in the 1950s. Back then, sex seemed so out of the question for two young Brooklyn lovers. So risky and un-proper. But Tony and Eilis are so in love and make love for the first time after two years of dating. Eilis lives in a strict household and Tony shares a room with three brothers so when Eilis snuck him into her basement room, Tony jumped at the opportunity to finally have some alone time with his Irish lady. Their sex scene was steamy in the sense that it was romantic. Tony and Eilis sharing a moment in time that they would remember forever. Isn’t there something steamy about true love in a big city?

Other than the sex scene, there’s a ton of making out and not just with Tony. Eilis secretly marries Tony before she goes on a visit to her hometown of Enniscorthy, Ireland. There she falls for another lad named Jim. She makes out a ton with him too. So the fact that a married woman visiting Ireland cheats on her hubby with some other guys definitely adds to the steaminess rating.

The forbidden love and secrets behind Eilis’s romances contribute to the steaminess rating. The sex scene brings the rating from PG-13 to R.
